Veneers are prescription-only cosmetic piece of equipment used in dentistry with the goal of providing you with a more appealing smile. Issues most usually experienced by those who want veneers include discolored teeth, broken or chipped teeth, worn down teeth, teeth with large gaps, and misaligned or malformed teeth. The materials which are most often used in veneers are dental acrylic, ceramic, composite, and porcelain. By far, the most poplar material offered by most dental professionals is porcelain because it is extremely strong, durable, stain resistant, and provides a very natural appearance. On average, your dental veneer should last more than 10 years.
The Procedure
The first thing you need to do is make an appointment with your dentist to talk about the possibility of veneers. At this point having a clear picture in your mind of your expected results is advisable. Your dental professional will evaluate your teeth to determine if veneers are the right choice in your case. If you and your dentist decide to move forward with the procedure, you will then need to make an appointment to have the initial prep work done.
Preparing for getting dental veneers initially involves what is known as “trimming the tooth” in which the dentist will clip the enamel on your teeth to the same thickness of the veneer which will be put in place as well as to ensure the surface will be even. Once this is done the dentist will then make an impression of your tooth or teeth to be used as a template in the making of your veneer. On your final visit, your dentist will put the veneer temporarily on your tooth and make the necessary adjustments to make sure that it is a proper fit and the color is the same as the rest of your teeth.
Caring For Dental Veneers
Dental veneers do not need any special care beyond the normal best practices for ensuring your teeth and gums are healthy. these practices include brushing, flossing, and, of course, regular appointments for comprehensive dental cleanings.
